Wizz Air is to reinstate former pilots based in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca after the Romanian court ruled that the pilots were illegally dismissed during the pandemic. FPU Romania expects Wizz Air to do a proper and fair reinstatement, says General Secretary Mircea Constantin who fought in court on behalf of the pilots.

Wizz Air has been ordered to return money owed to its staff. The case was brought forward by FPU Romania on behalf of its members. It covers both holiday pay and forced unpaid leave that were wrongly handled by the airline.

Pilots and cabin crew undergo extensive initial and recurrent training every year. Digital technology has made e-learning an efficient substitute for in-class training. But can airlines demand crew members complete mandatory e-learning courses without scheduling them as duty time?
A decision from the Bucharest Labor Court has ruled that a clause in a pilot’s local employment contract that restricted the individual from working elsewhere without express written consent is null and void. The judge made it clear that this clause was against the law, and since holding multiple jobs is permitted by current legislation, any restrictions must be explicitly provided by law.
As commercial flying has become increasingly available to most people, the aviation industry has also seen a significant increase in aggressive behavior on board. Unruly passenger incidents are on the rise globally.
