Wizz Air Malta is downsizing its operations at four Romanian bases: Iași (IAS), Craiova (CRA), Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) and Bucharest Băneasa (BBU). The downsizing affects both pilots and cabin crew.
The company has set out a number of economic and operational considerations behind the proposed reorganisation and has initiated the consultation process with FPUR under Romanian labour law.
FPUR will use this consultation process to explore every reasonable alternative in order to save as many jobs as possible. FPUR has submitted its proposals to Wizz Air Malta and the relevant Romanian authorities while staying in close contact with our members.
FPUR has put several options on the table, from voluntary transfers and temporary measures that could preserve jobs to other solutions available under Romanian labour law.
“A lot of work has gone into these proposals, and that is exactly what our members expect from us in a process like this. We have looked at the legal side, the practical side and the feedback coming directly from our members,” says Bianca Mircea, Legal Counsel and Board Member at FPU Romania.
Throughout the process, FPUR is staying close to the members.
“Many of our members are worried, and rightfully so. This is not an easy situation to be in. We will keep listening, bring their concerns and proposals to the consultation table and be there for them throughout the process and beyond,” says Mircea Constantin, General Secretary of FPU Romania.
WAM now has five calendar days to respond to FPUR’s proposals. FPUR has also invited the company to meet FPUR and its legal team in Bucharest to continue the consultation around the same table.
”We hope Wizz Air Malta will accept our invitation and continue the consultation with us around the table,” says Mircea Constantin.
