Wizz Air’s Decision to Resume Flights to Tel Aviv

In light of the recent attacks and Israel’s declaration of a state of emergency, all commercial flights to and from Israel were suspended for approximately 48 hours. Despite the ongoing instability, Wizz Air has announced today to its employees that it will resume flights to Tel Aviv, making it potentially the only European airline to do so at this time, with the exception of other cargo airline operations.

The security situation in Israel remains highly volatile. The relevant European authorities, including the European Authority for Aviation Safety (EASA) and the EU Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), must urgently address this alarming decision. The resumption of flights to a region that remains under significant threat could endanger the lives of crew members and passengers alike. It is a decision that flies in the face of all rational safety considerations. All other European airlines have recognized the seriousness of the situation and have ceased their flights to Israel until further notice.

We call on Wizz Air to reconsider its decision immediately. Furthermore, we urge European aviation authorities to step in and suspend these flights until the security situation is fully stabilized. No commercial interests should outweigh the safety and well-being of those on board.

FPU Romania, along with other unions, stands firm in our commitment to protect the safety of all aviation personnel. We will continue to push for decisive action to ensure that no crew member is forced to operate in conflicting areas.
